I love to indulge a little during the holidays…who doesn’t?! But my indulgences today look a little different from how they used to look. I no longer find myself shovelling down cookie after cookie or an entire box chocolates. I have more control over my cravings now BUT I do want to treat myself sometimes.
These recipes are healthier versions of many of our old favourite comforts. But they won’t leave you feeling tired or bloated.
So my mission in creating this holiday drink ebook was to provide you with new recipes that you can enjoy guilt-free and to show you that a dairy-free diet without all that refined sugar doesn’t have to leave you feeling deprived. Enjoy and Happy Holidays!

This creamy, dairy free, egg free ‘egg’ nog has warming spices and uses banana to sweeten.
1 ripe banana
1 can (400mL) full-fat organic coconut milk
1-1/2 cups almond milk
1/4 cup pure maple syrup*
1 tsp organic ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp organic ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp organic ground cloves
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Place all your ingredients into a high power blender and give it a whirl. If you refrigerate it overnight the flavours will be even more wonderful but it will definitely thicken up quite a bit so you might need to thin it out with a bit of coconut milk.
Top with freshly grated cinnamon.

Candy Cane Protein Smoothie
A post-workout smoothie (or anytime smoothie) that tastes like a milkshake?! Yes please!
1 Cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
1/2 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
1/2 a Candy Cane Crushed into a fine powder
2 TBS Full Fat Coconut Milk or Almond Coffee Creamer
1 drop of peppermint extract – be careful too much peppermint is NOT delicious.
Drizzle of honey (optional)
4-6 Ice Cubes as needed for desired consistency
Place all ingredients in a high speed blender. Blend. Enjoy!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate
Afternoon hot chocolates are pretty much a daily ritual for me in the month of December and adding in that peppermint makes it that much more festive. I love this for a little boost in energy on those days where it’s needed.
1 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk (I use almond)
1/4 cup coconut milk (full fat)
4 1/2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Sweetener of choice, to taste (I use 1 tbsp honey or pure maple syrup)
1/8 – 1/4 tsp peppermint extract (or 1 drop pure peppermint essential oil)
coconut whip (optional)
Heat non-dairy milk and coconut milk in a small pot. Heat until steaming but not boiling.
Whisk in cocoa powder.
Add sweetener to taste, whisk.
Add 1/8 tsp of the peppermint extract, whisk again, and taste. Add another 1/8 if it needs more.
If using coconut whip, add to the top.

Chocolate Peppermint Smoothie
This one is rich and creamy and is perfect when you have a chocolate craving!
1 Cup Almond Milk (or other alternative)
1 Frozen Banana
1-2 Drops Peppermint (depending on preference)
2 tsp cocoa powder
1/2 Peppermint Candy Cane
1 Tsp Dark Chocolate Chips
Optional: Honey or dates blended in for extra sweetness
Blend the milk, banana, cocoa powder, peppermint extract and 1/4 of candy cane until smooth. Add the remainder of candy cane and chocolate chips and pulse so they remain like sprinkles in the shake!
